How much does a website cost in India?

What actually drives the cost of a business website, e-commerce store or web app in India, and how to get a quote you can trust.

“How much for a website?” is the first question almost every business owner asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on what the website needs to do. A five-page company profile and an online store with inventory sync are both “websites”, but they are very different projects.

This guide explains what drives the price, so you can compare quotes properly and avoid paying for things you don’t need.

The four types of website

TypeWhat it doesRelative effort
Business websiteExplains who you are, what you offer and how to contact youLow
Content / marketing siteAdds a blog, landing pages and a CMS so your team can publishMedium
E-commerce storeProduct catalogue, cart, payments, shipping and order managementMedium–high
Web applicationLogins, dashboards and custom workflows such as bookings or portalsHigh

What actually drives the cost

  1. Number of unique page designs. Ten pages sharing one layout cost far less than ten different layouts.
  2. Custom functionality. Payments, booking calendars, customer logins and integrations with ERP or CRM systems take the most time.
  3. Content. If you need copywriting, photography or product data entry, budget for it separately.
  4. Performance and SEO work. A fast, well-structured site takes more care than a heavy template, but it pays back in search rankings and conversions.
  5. Ongoing care. Hosting, security updates, backups and small changes after launch.

Templates vs custom builds

Ready-made themes look cheap up front, but they often ship with large amounts of unused code that slows the site down, and customising them beyond the demo can cost more than building cleanly. A custom, lightweight build makes sense when speed, SEO and brand matter to you.

The cheapest website is the one that brings in enough enquiries to pay for itself.

How to get a quote you can trust

  • Ask for a written scope listing pages, features and what is excluded.
  • Check that you will own the domain, hosting account and source code.
  • Ask how the site will be measured: page speed, enquiries and search visibility.
  • Clarify what support after launch costs.

The short version

Decide what the website needs to achieve, such as enquiries, sales or bookings, then pay for exactly that. If you’d like a fixed, written quote for your project, tell us what you need.
